The EHS Engineer is responsible for implementing, and maintaining the policies, programs, and procedures within the Harris Environment Health and Safety management system. The EHS Engineer 3 will ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal OSHA, EPA, DOT, Santa Barbara County and Federal requirements, as well as complying Air Force Environmental Health and Safety. As part of a team, the EHS Engineer 3 will also support satellite processing.

  • Participates actively in the management of the organization to establish policies and directions to achieve leadership within the EHS program.

  • Implement the EHS program within the scope of associated contracts, and responsible for compliance with all applicable EHS and corporate management standards.

  • Must be able to work with internal and external customers, to include supporting associate contractors.

  • Ensures that all applicable internal and external reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits and assessments. Advises management of conditions requiring corrective action.

  • Provides/supports EHS briefings and training sessions as appropriate to fulfill regulatory requirements and foster a safe working environment.

  • Performs accident investigations to determine probable cause and produces and maintains necessary documentation and permits.

  • Maintains required site permits and licenses.

  • Establishes and maintains necessary contacts with site, customer, county, state, federal, and Air Force EHS regulatory agencies.

  • Experience with Hazardous Communications-Global Harmonization Systems (GHS), performing weekly container inspections, appropriate labeling, Emergency Procedures, and Hazardous properties.

  • Maintains required records in accordance with regulatory, Spaceport Systems, Harris Corporation, to include PPE, training, certifications, inspections, audits, Hazardous waste pickup’s, fire prevention etc.

Work is performed in multiple environments to include office, project, outside, clean room, and possibly launch site location support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

  • 2-5 years of progressive experience in Environmental, health and safety.

  • Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, Cal OSHA, and DOT requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline highly preferred.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Satellite processing experience, including familiarity with hazardous propellant loading (e.g. hydrazine)

  • Experience with OSHA &Cal Osha programs such as Electrical, Aerial Work Platforms, Crane Operations, Lead and Asbestos, Ergonomics, Lockout-Tag-out, and Emergency Response.

  • Experience with Ordnance requirements as well as Explosive Safety Standards.

This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
