Job Description:

Perform hands-on optical alignment and metrology for Harris’ Space and Intelligence Systems ISR Operations group. Work with Engineering and Assembly teams to align and test space-based optical systems. Build, set up, calibrate and troubleshoot optical test equipment. Maintain test instruments and equipment.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Set up optical test equipment (interferometers and optical benches, laser trackers, precision motion systems). Calibrate equipment as needed and maintain test hardware readiness (40%)

  • Use test equipment to align flight optical systems, following written procedures and manuals, working with Engineering and Assembly teams. Collect test data. (30%)

  • Organize and maintain test hardware. Track calibrated instruments. Verify compliance with government and corporate capital asset tracking. Arrange interplant equipment shipping. (30%).

  • Perform the above in both ordinary lab spaces as well as clean room facilities. Follow all cleanliness and safety requirements. Maintain company training certifications as required.

  • Some rotating shiftwork and weekends will be required depending on program needs.

  • The physical requirements for this position are: working at different heights in chambers (climb ladders and elevators), also lifting up to 40lbs.


  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with 0 to 3 years of prior related experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Associate’s Degree (Optical Technologies or Metrology preferred) with 0-2 years of experience.

  • Experience following lab procedures and writing technical reports.

  • Experience working with measurement equipment in a lab environment.

  • Computer literate; capable with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, basic understanding of computer hardware.Coursework in basic optics and optical systems; Experience with optical alignment and interferometry.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good time management ability.Willing to work both in teams and as an individual.

  • Strong individual initiative; Able to complete work in a self-directed manner.
