This position will be responsible for providing Mechanical Engineering support to customer-funded programs and internal research efforts within our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) business unit of Harris Corporation.

Mechanical Engineer to perform design, development and analysis tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision space structures and mechanisms, electro-mechanical hardware, and complex electronic packaging in a program team environment. Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing. Candidate must have strong proficiency in 3D modeling, design for manufacturing, and ability to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment.
The preferred candidate will:
Define and establish the technical approach to meet assigned objective
Direct, coordinate, control and provide assistance to work group in order to meet assigned objective
Prepare reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and presenting results to both external and internal groups.
Participate and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM)
Complete assigned projects on time; adhering to engineering standards
Use mechanical design and analysis software including Pro/E, PATRAN, MSC Nastran
Establish composite and metallic part design using 3D CAD and FEA
Provide technical direction as needed to other junior Engineers and team members
Use mechanical design and analysis software including Pro/E, Pro/Mechanica, PATRAN, MSC Nastran
Contribute as part of a team to develop new methods of simulation and modeling for composite material and structures.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or related disciplines from an ABET Accredited program
9+ years of relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree or 7+ years of relevant experience with a Master's Degree.
Experience with FEA tools is required
An understanding of structural analysis methods (FEA and hand-calculations) is required
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience in an aerospace environment
Experience in design or analysis of space based mechanical structures, electronics packaging or mechanisms, along with engineering drawing development
Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo Parametric and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
Proficiency in analysis FEA tools such as Femap, NASTRAN, ANSYS
