Job Description:

Harris is seeking a Desktop Support Technician who will be responsible for providing second or third tier technical support to internal company employees or external customers for desktop systems software, hardware and network infrastructure. Responds to situations where first-line technical support is unable to isolate or fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software. Installs, configures and troubleshoots desktop systems, workstations, servers and network issues. Maintains passwords, data integrity and file system security for the desktop environment. Communicates technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel. Recommends hardware and software solutions, including new acquisitions and upgrades. Participates in development of information technology and infrastructure projects. Conducts research on information technology trends that help facilitate employee productivity.

Job Duties:

  • Monitors and responds to hardware, software, and network problems utilizing hardware and software testing tools and techniques.

  • Provides customer assistance support in setting up microcomputers, mobile devices and/or installing software packages, when required.

  • Provides user training for hardware/software products when in the process of client support.

  • In support of microcomputer applications, analyzes requirements; creates, designs and develops requirements in required media; provides program support; tests, debugs and writes documentation as required.

  • Identifies problems and resolves hardware/software malfunctions.

  • Provides maintenance such as board replacement, cable switching, communication assistance, hardware/printers installation/replacement; and analysis support for such requirements.

  • Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring PC Performance.

  • Accurately documents instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.

  • Interfaces with vendor support service groups to ensure appropriate notification during outages or period of degraded system Performance.

  • Support development and implementation of new computer projects and new hardware installations.

  • Assist other team members responsible for hardware in troubleshooting and repairing failures in office infrastructure such as printers, projectors, displays, desktop units, laptops, networks, etc.

  • Responsible for refreshing/swapping out desktops, notebooks, and general PC's.

  • Develops and maintains software and hardware inventory and tracking systems; develops inventory lists and orders, stocks and stores electronic components.

  • Implement IT policies, procedures, and system controls.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Connect and set up hardware.

  • Commitment to 24x7x365 on-call availability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent amount of professional work experience plus three (3) years of increasingly complex and progressive experience in computer system/network operations.

  • 3 years of experience providing world class support to senior level executive management.

  • 3 years of experience providing world class support to senior level executive management.

  • 1 year of specialized experience related to Intermediate. Network/Hardware/Software PC Support Technician.

  • Shall possess as a minimum: an A+ or N+ certification and a Security+ Certification.

  • 3 years of experience with computer repair techs must be able to diagnose, repair and test computer problems as they arise and need to be able to solve issues that might not have a clear solution.

  • 3 years of experience with all hardware, software, and network operating systems.

  • 3 years of experience with the knowledge of Remedy Service Management, Microsoft Office, Visio, and other tools.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Self-motivated, corporate business experience, technical assistance is desirable.

  • Consideration may be given to relevant professional level experience as an offset

  • Performance of duties with general supervision

  • Excellent listening skills and speak clearly and concisely and be easily understood.

  • Service oriented.

  • Ability to travel locally and be able to carry light computer equipment.

  • Good writing and communication skills with the ability to document technical issues in a clear and effective manner with appropriate detail

  • Able to maintain current and accurate inventory of hardware, software and resources

  • Excellent problem-solving skills are preferred.
