Job Description:

Manage all aspects of the supply base within the space electronics and electro-mechanical modules category. Requires subject matter expertise and comprehensive knowledge of these commodity areas. Responsible for ensuring that the SIS segment has a world class supply base that adds value to Harris products and programs at the right cost, quality and delivery levels.

Will manage large, complex initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction. Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to category strategy, practices, processes and approaches. Will make significant improvements to segment-level processes and systems. Provides input into new processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results.

Work is guided by individual annual goals and objectives. Frequently responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees across the company. Accountable for ensuring effective collaboration, communication and alignment with Procurement, Subcontracts, Quality assurance, and Engineering throughout the program life cycle.

  • Lead multi-site, cross-functional category / commodity team(s).

  • Understand and track current category market conditions, trends, developing technologies, and suppliers’ capacity and capabilities.

  • Develop and implement spend management analytics and strategies.

  • Guide the selection, development, and management of strategic suppliers to meet category cost and performance goals.

  • Perform supplier assessments and rationalization, lead negotiations focusing on best total cost of ownership and perform make vs. buy analyses.

Ongoing development of high performing suppliers required to provide program critical items, including qualification utilizing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles. In addition, ability to implement Root Cause Correct Action (RCCA) as well as Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) analytical tools with suppliers to identify and evaluate potential risks or failures in their key processes.

Skills and Experience:

  • Category strategy development and rationalization of supply base

  • Procurement or subcontract experience with complex space electronics and/or electro-mechanical modules

  • Data analytics (inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling)

  • Early supply chain engagement in the product/program maturity cycle

  • Design to Cost (DTC) / Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) experience

  • Exceptional problem solving/avoidance skills

  • Ability to work through others and provide effective cross-functional team leadership to achieve goals

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work consists of making significant improvements to strategy, processes, systems, and solutions that drive enhanced performance of the electronics/electro-mechanical category. Ensures advanced supply chain planning and involvement throughout the program lifecycle.

  • Maintains a high performing supply base by constantly assessing risks, monitoring performance trends and measuring key performance indicators. Recommends actions to identify, improve or remove poor performing suppliers.

  • Evaluates supplier capabilities and technology roadmaps and compares them to Harris supply base. Recommends improvement actions to address capability gaps.

  • Work is guided by individual annual goals and objectives with minimal oversight or direction. Role requires the ability to effectively work through others across the segment and corporation in a center-led organizational construct.

  • Communicates with leadership (at all levels including corporate) regarding matters of importance within both the functional and business areas.


  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience within supply chain, operations or engineering. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.

  • Procurement or subcontracts experience with complex space electronics and/or electro-mechanical modules.

Additional Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Category or Commodity management experience

  • Proficient in data analysis and in making decisions based upon complex data (Tableau experience desired)

  • Space, aerospace or defense industry experience

  • US Government program lifecycle experience including program or project management experience

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills

  • MBA (operations management, supply chain, logistics)

  • CPSM - Certified Professional in Supply Management

  • LEAN / Six Sigma Certifications
