Responsibilities include the functional management of a Digital Engineering department for the Electronic Systems segment.

As a functional leader, the Engineering Manager is responsible for leading an organization of approximately 110 Engineering employees located in Brevard county. This includes supervision and leading of the including planning, development, and execution of Digital engineering tasking on projects, pursuits, and programs.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership, management, direction, and technical oversight for the electrical/digital engineering department

  • Serves as a mentor in guiding the development and growth of engineering staff, encouraging application of engineering best practices; fostering a proactive attitude and encouraging innovation; and reinforcing contributions and commitment in line with Harris’ corporate values

  • Maintains proper staffing levels and expertise in order to meet business objectives through the effective planning and execution of projects, pursuits, and programs

  • Works with Business Development, Program Management, and BU Leadership to provide input for Strategic Planning, Research and Development Planning, and Inter-Corporation Resource Sharing

  • Stays abreast of state-of-the-art technology advancement; identifying disruptive or emerging technology trends for inclusion in IRAD, innovation, or pursuit/program ECP opportunities product improvements

  • Exerts influence in the development of overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization

  • Drives application of engineering standards and best practices, and process adherence; defines, evolves and tailors processs as needed for new requirements

  • Supports technical and cost development of proposals, with technical guidance, resource planning, and technical and cost review

  • Establishes operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate organizational units. Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to organizational policies

  • Executes functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention, performance management, and overall management of the department

  • Develops and conducts work programs in accordance with the company's policies, priorities, and budget constraints

  • Manages and/or develops budgets for functions or departments including operating requirements and equipment and material purchases.Meets engineering organization Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budget.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10+ years related experience.

  • Prior experience with and understanding of digital CCA and Firmware design process including requirements generation, preliminary design, peer reviews, detailed design, test plan generation, and integration and test.

  • Identifying impacts (cost, schedule, and technology risk) to provide technical guidance to the design teams

  • Technical understanding of:

  • Different board technologies such as HDI, Meg6, and back drilling.Different FPGA technologies and devices including but not limited to Xilinx, Altera, Semi Micro.

  • Background in digital signal processing algorithm development and modeling

  • Familiarity with DSP design implementations in both Software and Firmware; understand DSP operations (FIR filters, Up/Down sampling, convolution, correlations…) and optimization impact to the overall system performance.

  • Digital Communication theory; understand different modulation schemes, AGC design and control, BER, PPL, FEC.

  • Manager or supervisor experience.

  • Advanced degree preferred.
