The Quality Control Inspection department inspects in-process and final product to ensure that that it meets all internal, regulatory, and customer requirements. The Quality Control team captures defects as nonconformities as they are identified. The Quality Control team also provides feedback to the manufacturing teams, test teams, and quality engineers to drive improved performance throughout the product lifecycle. This position is responsible for supervising the Quality Control Inspection team responsible for the development of spaceborne products.
Leads, directs, and reviews the work of the Quality Control team.
Communicates within and outside the quality assurance function to explain and gain cooperation on policies and practices.
Responsible for Quality Control improvements to processes, systems, and solutions.
Plans and establishes goals and objectives for a team with direct impact on the short-term operational results for the department.
Requires practical knowledge in leading/managing projects, processes, and employees and has strong knowledge within Quality Assurance.
Provides leadership in all functional areas and ensures that all Inspection Procedures are followed.
Drives day to day audits of manufacturing and test processes.
Analyzes results of process audits and manufacturing/test defect data.
Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Quality Control Inspection team (approx. 30 employees). Ensures employee availability for required inspections in all business areas and factories.
Implements Lean and 6-Sigma concepts to improve the efficiencies in all manufacturing and test areas.
Collaborate with process engineering in development of inspection methods to increase efficiency of inspections.
Perform supervisory duties in accordance with Harris policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include safety, interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Must have an active Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
Bachelor’s Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years’ experience supporting inspection, manufacturing and/or quality assurance activities.
OR, Master’s Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years’ experience supporting receiving inspection, manufacturing and/or supplier quality activities.
OR, non-Technical Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years’ experience supporting inspection, or quality assurance activities
Technical experience with Mechanical (machined/fabricated parts and inspection), Electrical parts (component recognition, component measurement, handling, counterfeit, ESD)
Experience with applying quality concepts – Sampling plans, Quality clauses, Inspection plans
ISO9001/AS9100 experience preferred.
Quality experience; quality management, root cause/corrective action
Six Sigma Training/skills, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt Certification, is preferred
Experience with Lean and 5S principles/implementation
Demonstrated experience with project management and continuous improvement initiatives
Supervisory experience with personnel management, conflict resolution, scheduling, and workload planning
Ability to focus, prioritize, and multi-task successfully to drive projects to closure
High computer literacy – ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
