We are seeking an Advanced Programs Engineer (APE) with significant experience in the design and implementation of Robotic Systems. The candidate will be customer-centric and responsible for the creation, identification, pursuit, and capture of new business. The ideal candidate brings a solid technical foundation and proven experience working with development engineering teams as well as direct customer interaction. The candidate should have demonstrated capability in architecting and developing solutions that differentiate a company from competition, have proven large team leadership ability, and a demonstrated history of successfully supporting business pursuit efforts. The APE will identify and/or define customers' emerging needs and develop Harris solutions to those needs. The APE shall be able to guide customer requirements. He/she will also identify and/or create new opportunities to apply Harris capability and lead and/or contribute on teams developing technical and cost proposals. The APE will be the technical interface to customers to discover, qualify, and pursue business opportunities with government labs, advanced development pursuits, and the establishment of technology partnerships.

Full time position in Palm Bay, FL. Position may require up to 25% travel.


  • BS degree in mechanical/electrical/systems engineering

  • 12+ years of related experience (or 10+ years of related experience including a Master's degree)

  • 5+ years of experience in mobile ground based unmanned systems or experience related to the military robotics market

  • Experience working with Business Development, Sales and US Government customers.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Tactical networking (technology and protocols)

  • Army's Unmanned Ground Vehicle Interoperability Profile (IOP)

  • Ability to work multiple tasks in a fast paced environment and adapt quickly to changing situations

  • Experience with Government contracting, proposal writing, and business acquisition process

  • Knowledge of customers and requirements of domestic or international military robotic systems

  • Familiarity with current military hardware and software open architecture initiatives.

  • Ability to develop/enhance customer intimacy.

  • Credibility in communicating technical and business aspects to the customer.

  • Ability to work well with customers at both technical and executive levels. This includes being able to communicate system concepts to both highly technical and non-technical customers.

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with business development, program management personnel and customers.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
