Harris Corporation is seeking a highly motivated Systems Administrator to work on a team of experienced and highly competent engineers in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a new team member to help handle our increasing load of both day-to-day tasks and engineering work. The ideal candidate will love problem solving, working collaboratively with the customer, have an eye for details, and be self-motivated.

System Administrator role managing Linux, virtualization systems, and enterprise storage systems with an aptitude for project management. This position is on a team responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining servers and infrastructure in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines.

  • Performs software installations and upgrades to Solaris and RedHat operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.

  • Administers assigned Enterprise systems such as enterprise data storage administration (EMC/NetApp), enterprise server virtualization (VMWare) to ensure systems are functioning properly. Troubleshoots hardware, software, and wide area network related problems associated with the assigned Enterprise systems or systems.

  • Coordinates with remote site functions for installations, moves, and troubleshooting issues associated with assigned system or systems; provides recommendations for related computer hardware and software purchases.

  • Coordinates with vendors to resolve issues, arrange service, and obtain support. Installs and provides support for commercially obtained software.

  • Monitors and tunes the system to achieve good working order and optimum level of performance and appropriate security. Ensures server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.

  • Conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines. Knowledgeable of networking associated with a LAN based server and workstations.

  • Manages and directs proactive and reactive systems administration activities to ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of networked and stand-alone resources.


  • BS/BA (or equivalent) in Information Technology or related field, and minimum 6 years related experience.

  • Experience with the following: RedHat Linux – Basic Network concepts, Linux kickstarts, Server installation.

  • 3+ years of experience with Oracle Solaris 10 or 11, CentOS/RHEL 6 or 7

  • 3+ years of UNIX operating system security configuration.

  • Experience performing complex infrastructure design, including planning of interactions of multiple applications (HA, DB, Large Networks), is a plus.

  • Experience with Sun hardware, Oracle VM Server for SPARC/Logical Domains.

  • Experience with Veritas Volume Management/Clustering

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance.


  • Knowledge of scripting for automation of tools is preferred (BASH/Python/Perl/PowerShell).

  • Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).

  • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure design: power requirements, rack build-out, cooling, and how to secure a lab.

  • Experience with supporting any of the following applications or technology:

  • Splunk

  • RHEL - SMB, IPTables, SELinux

  • Zabbix

  • Mysql

  • VMWare ESXi experience

  • Pacemaker HA Clustering.

  • Symantec NetBackup

  • Veeam

This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a FAA security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
