Job Description:

The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be a member of the Corporate EHS department supporting the EHS Director in the development, execution and continual improvement of the organization’s strategic EHS plan. This individual will have a thorough understanding of EHS principals, leading industry practices and governing regulations with a focus on sustainability and environmental programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Will provide technical and professional leadership regarding applicable EHS regulations and issues specifically for all Harris Business Units facilities in support of the EHS Director.

  • Ensure regulatory and corporate compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis.

  • Promote an action oriented EHS culture with a sense of urgency that drives commitment to attaining “world class” performance.

  • Spearhead the EHS improvements within the company and assist with identifying, conceptualizing, and implementing improvement projects related to EHS.

  • Support Harris Internal Audit and Harris Legal in the publishing of audit reports as well as the tracking findings to closure using the EHS Management System.

  • Develop new programs to streamline and simplify EHS programs and processes for Business Units focused on environmental and sustainability programs

  • Provide direct involvement with BUs to ensure environmental compliance through the collection of data and timely reporting of required by regulation to include federal, state and local obligations.

  • Leads and drives the development of Harris’s corporate sustainability strategy, goals and metrics, in conjunction with external experts and relevant cross-functional teams (i.e. corporate, engineering, and manufacturing teams)

  • Accountable for leading and driving progress in Harris’s Corporate sustainability program. Manages and develops sustainability communications internally and externally with key stakeholders.

  • Delivers completion of monthly review of key metrics including carbon, energy, water, and waste, by gathering and analyzing source data.

  • Prepares annual report on sustainability goals and achievements and assists in the development of a corporate responsibility report.

  • Liaison with all functional areas within the company to assure Safety, Security, Physical and Environmental and asset conservation issues are fully understood and executed.

  • Coordinate with EHS, HR and health provider to support full circle injury case management and return to work.


  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of 12 years EHS experience in roles of increasing responsibility and leadership.

  • Experience with OSHA, EPA, DOT & NFPA requirements.

  • Experience developing and implementing safety, environmental and health programs, processes and framework for multiple sites.

  • Experience with OSHA, EPA and other applicable industry environmental, health and safety standards.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of expereince in a leadership role

  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing background

  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes

  • Superior communication skills – verbal and written

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to develop multiple solutions to an issue and make valid recommendations for resolution

  • Able to understand and execute processes including:recognizing customer needs, communicating process changes, measuring and assessing success and identifying areas of improvement
