Harris is seeking talented Chief Systems Engineers to join its Mission Networks team, to help build a next generation network supporting the FAA. We are looking for individuals with an interest in architecting solutions for providing last mile access to FAA facilities, including migration strategies from legacy Analog/TDM access to Ethernet (or other future access technology). The technical lead will drive and champion systems engineering processes and best practices for the full life cycle of the program.

Job Description:

  • Develop comprehensive solutions for providing last mile access to FAA facilities, including migration strategies from legacy Analog/TDM access to Ethernet or other future access technology

  • Evaluate compatibility of legacy FAA applications with future access technologies

  • Develop strategies for continued access carrier relationships, including cost reductions (Telco Expense Management) as well as integration of non-traditional carrier options (Cable providers, OneWeb)

  • Develop position on Diversity and Avoidance posture for Layer 2+ networks

  • Serve as a technical interface between Harris and the customers’ engineering staffs.

  • Engage with customer engineering, operations, and management personnel to define and document the customer’s CONOPS and requirements.

  • Decompose requirements and allocating them to different subsystems or cross-functional domains (i.e., SW).

  • Conduct trade studies as required for designing solutions for customer needs.

  • Serve as the technical lead for proposal efforts, including creation of a technical baseline, cost determination, ROM creation, and technical writing for the proposal volume.

  • Lead design review efforts and hold design reviews with internal and/or external stakeholders, and ensure design reviews are planned, executed, and action items closed..

  • Responsible for providing technical oversight in the FAA NextGen Programs domain

  • Assess and manage technical risk on the program.

  • Communicate clearly with peers and stakeholders about ideas, designs, and implementation details

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering or a related field), and a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in systems engineering and/or technical leadership.

  • Experience in the Systems Engineering Lifecycle.

  • Previous systems engineering leadership experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent (MSEE, MSCE, MSSE, MCS [computer science] or a related field)

  • Certifications: CCNA, CCNP preferred but not required

  • Experience with SD-WAN, Network Function Virtualization, SDN Software Defined Networking

  • Experience with WAN Optimization and Virtualization products from any of these: Cisco/Viptela, Talari, Riverbed, Silver Peak, Aryaki, Citrix Virtualization

  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP & Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)

  • Self-starter, with high initiative and drive.

  • Team-player, able to work in a large program environment and have good communications skills.

  • Familiarity with FAA programs
