Harris Corporation Space and Intelligence Systems has an opening for a Remote Sensing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Defense areas. This individual will work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and a collaborative team setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders

  • EO or RF Mission Data Processing, Analysis and Exploitation

  • Resident Space Object (RSO) Extraction and Association

  • RSO Astrometric and Photometric Analysis

  • Orbit Determination and Differential Correction Calculations

  • Satellite Conjunction Analysis and Risk Assessment

  • Threat Assessment, Defense and Engagement

  • End-to-End Modeling and Simulation

  • CONOPS Development for Improved System Performance

  • Prepare Technical Presentations and Reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ year of relevant systems engineering experience, or equivalent

  • An active TS/SCI security clearance

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 5+ years of direct experience with radar and/or electro-optical remote sensing systems used to detect and track space objects

  • 5+ years of experience within the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Defense community

  • Signal and image processing experience, including astrometric and photometric analysis (i.e. rotation assessment)

  • Remote Sensing experience, including image formation, pixel processing, point spread function (PSF) analysis, optical MTF, point source photometry, radiometry, sensor calibration, etc.

  • Object tracking, including techniques such as Kalman filtering, multi-hypothesis, particle filtering, etc

  • Machine learning experience, including Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks, Parameter optimization, etc

  • Experience with dynamics, celestial mechanics, statistical orbit determination, estimation theory, attitude dynamics and controls

  • Experience with programming and scripting languages such as Matlab/Python and related packages (AstroPy, OrbitalPy, poliastro, ephem, Pandas)

  • Experience with astrodynamics and orbital mechanics tools (e.g. STK, ODTK, Free Flyer, SGP4 and other propagator code libraries)

  • Experience with orbit analysis and prediction, transfer orbits, plane changes, and orbit maneuvers

  • Experience with orbit determination, conjunction assessment, and trajectory analysis (i.e. working with two-line element sets)

  • Experience with Differential Correction (DC) of satellite state vectors using observations from sensors in the Space Surveillance Network (SSN) and nontraditional data sources

  • Statistical data science experience, including working with data in varying formats and being able to ingest to tool sets, format conversions, Monte Carlo simulations, etc.

  • Experience with modeling and simulation of systems using sensor characteristics, astrodynamics and orbital mechanics to support design validation and mission benefit analysis

  • Experience with Space Defense Control operations and concepts

  • Experience with geosynchronous, highly elliptical, low, and medium earth orbit mission operations and analysis
