Job Description:

Harris is seeking a Scientist, Systems Engineering to provide technical leadership of radar weapon systems. This individual will be responsible for leading teams in development, engineering, interface and integration of all components of complex hardware/software systems on the SENSOR contract under Space and Intelligence Systems. This individual will be a key participant in customer working groups to communicate system operation and capability, explain analysis of real world events and perform radar system trade studies. The ideal candidate should have in depth experience with analysis of phased array radar system performance, radar system architectures, and radar system modeling, development, and design. Ensures the logical and systematic allocation/derivation of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints and translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Directs integration activities and ensures diligence and rigor are incorporated into integration activities to ensure projects are ready to proceed to the integration phase. Establishes an engineering assessment of product maturity to proceed to formal test and operational acceptance. Interfaces with customer and determines customer needs and goals. Provides presentations to the customer and works with project/product team to accomplish customer development and deployment goals.


  • Mentors system engineers and provides guidance on project exectuion

  • Leads teams in requirements elicitation, definition, and functional allocation to hardware and software segments and components

  • Supervises system requirements reviews and create and/or update requirement specifications and technical documentation. Review system engineering documentation to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete.

  • Leads teams to develop system modeling using MBSE tools and techniques to define system interfaces, requirements and behaviors and provide support to system design

  • Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Develop trade studies to guide selection of components to ensure requirement satisfaction. Develop/assess course of action alternatives in project development/product delivery

  • Develop integration plans/procedures for software/hardware integration tests, be responsible for integration execution, detailed data analysis, and preparation of software test reports

  • Coordinate execution of HW/SW integration tests to verify system operation. Coordinate daily integration activities with other team members

  • Perform integration and formal test analysis and document results for selloff of requirements

  • Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure engineering rigor is appropriate for each project’s current lifecycle phase

  • Support the project management team by performing technical planning, including cost, risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems following a system design lifecycle process (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal)

  • Perform risk analysis, including identifying and assessing project risks. Develop and execute risk mitigation plans and management of risks on projects. Provide risk avoidance and risk mitigation strategies to project managers.

  • Support System Test and Evaluation by defining methods, processes, and evaluation criteria by which the systems, subsystems, and work products are verified against their requirements in a written plan

  • Assist in planning and conduct of O&M training

  • Occasional travel will be required to sites to support product development and/or installation and checkout at customer sites (including OCONUS)


  • A Bachelor’s Degree and 15+ years of relevant experience is required, or equivalent

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with requirements analysis and systems design within projects

  • Experience writing specifications, design, ConOps, and Interface Control Documents

  • The applicant should also have strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Previous experience supporting DoD/government Space or Missile Warning customers

  • Communication and excellent presentation skills is a must

  • Demonstrated self-starter - efficient in achieving goals and proactive in pursuing subsequent tasks

  • Proven team leadership skills, providing the technical voice for a project, program, or pursuit

  • Knowledge of MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

  • Flexible to occasionally travel for customer purposes

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, ability to interact with a cross functional team and act as customer interface for technical aspects

  • Ability to write subsystem specification and requirements

  • Strong knowledge of integration lifecycle

  • Experience in MBSE/SysML modeling

  • Hardware/software requirement verification/system validation experience

  • Leadership experience with medium and small project implementations.

  • Experience working directly with customers onsite at their facility.

  • Leadership experience with medium and small project implementations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, team oriented environment
