Harris is seeking a Project Engineer for the Precision Optics Group in Rochester, NY. This individual will provide technical direction to engineers in support of the manufacture and test of mid to large-sized, high precision optical components for multiple applications

The selected candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Provide technical direction for the manufacture and test of a variety of mid to large-sized prototype and state-of-the-art optical components for internal Harris systems and external customers.

  • Work with design, manufacturing and metrology teams to plan, organize and execute processing of optical components through all phases of the manufacturing process including optical testing.

  • Interface with and direct process engineers, metrology engineers, and technicians.

  • Support design development, analysis, manufacturing, process development, and proposal activities.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor degree with 6+ years of prior related experience or equivalent

Desired Skills:

  • Degree in Optics, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering

  • Ability to provide strong leadership to teams made up of engineers and technicians.

  • The ability to provide technical leadership to a team of highly skilled process/metrology engineers and technicians.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments

  • Proof of strong problem solving capability and people skills, and the ability to conduct presentations for management, technical experts, and customers

  • Experience with computer controlled (CNC) manufacturing processes

  • Experience with commercially available interferometry systems (ex. Zygo, 4D) and analysis software (ex. Matlab, MetroPro)
