General ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and parts.
Work as a member of an integrated product team to select the best materials and processes for the application.
Execute testing of materials and work in-process coupons. Testing will involve CTE, CME, testing of tensile, shear, stress, peel, adhesion, elongation, viscosity, flow, hardness, and wet chemical analysis.
Troubleshoot materials and processes related issues.
Own the material and process testing from sample preparation to final report and own the testing facility:
Plan, coordinate, and execute material and process testing including interfacing with various laboratories both Harris owned and external as required. This includes preparing samples for testing and using process knowledge to expand testing options for improved test results.
Analyze data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
Design experiments and equipment for customized testing as required by engineering.
Plan and execute new projects consulting with shop personnel, engineers, and management.
Create new and edit existing process documentation for testing.
Create outside purchase specifications per engineering drawings/specifications. Negotiate requirements and maintain relationships with key suppliers.
- High School / Secondary Education plus 8 + years of experience or Associates in Chemistry, Engineering Sciences, or Material Science with 4 plus years of related experience, or equivalent.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Candidate needs to be hands-on skilled and must be comfortable dealing with and operating electronic and mechanical instrumentation and equipment. Desire that candidate also have a background in equipment and its maintenance, both mechanical and electrical.
Candidate shall have demonstrated experience in certification testing of space flight hardware.
Candidate shall have demonstrated experience in the execution of testing for materials and process engineering discipline.
Candidate must have the ability to interact with people on the shop floor, good social skills, and able to work with diverse work groups.
Candidate must be able to work independently without constant direction.
Candidate must be a good team player and contributor and must be a self-starter.
Must have a government security clearance.
