JOB DESCRIPTION:

System Administrator role managing Linux, virtualization systems, and enterprise storage systems with an aptitude for project management. This position is on a team responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining servers and infrastructure in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines.

  • Deep experience in maintaining and troubleshooting Linux operating systems. Familiarity with developing and executing procedures for the following tasks: root cause analysis, rapid OS provisioning, patching, hardening, and local storage management (using ZFS and LVM).

  • Project management experience for small to mid-sized initiatives. Experience defining the drivers, stakeholders, risk, opportunity, and schedule for technical projects. Experience breaking large projects into small, achievable tasks delegated to a small team. Ability to define task priority for more-junior team members, weighing the differing goals of operations support, development environment support, and achieving long-term team visions.

  • Sound understanding of designing enterprise, shared storage solutions using EMC and NetApp storage technology. Familiarity with isolating storage performance issues and migrating mission-critical storage volumes with minimal downtime.

  • Good understanding of platform virtualization technology (VMware and KVM). Experience managing and troubleshooting storage, networking, and compute tiers of virtualization at a mid-size enterprise scale.

  • Administrator-level experience managing Splunk. Familiarity deploying and managing Splunk in a clustered indexer and clustered search head configuration. Familiarity developing applications for custom Splunk inputs from Windows, Unix, and appliance input sources.

  • Administrator-level experience with NetBackup or a similar backup solution. Familiarity architecting disaster recovery strategies for baremetal, virtual, and database workloads.

  • Administrator-level experience with Zabbix or a similar monitor and alerting tool. Familiarity designing custom health check solutions through scripting. Ability to investigate post-mortem system data, identify the events leading up to the event, and develop an automated monitoring solution to prevent the situation from occurring again.

  • Administrator-level experience with Red Hat Satellite or Spacewalk. Familiarity designing package channels, configuration channels, and activation keys for large enterprise environments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA (or equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, and minimum 6 years related experience.

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (systemd, journald, firewalld)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with CentOS/RHEL

  • Ability to design and defend complex infrastructure solutions (cluster, DB, large networks) is a plus.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of scripting for automation of tools is preferred (BASH/Python/Perl/PowerShell)

  • Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE)

  • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure design: power requirements, rack build-out, cooling, and how to secure a lab

  • Experience supporting any of the following applications or technology:

  • Shared storage for targets and initiators (NFS, iSCSI, FC)

  • Platform-level Clustering (Conga, Pacemaker, Corosync, Veritas HA)
